Dictionary.comは、1995年5月14日にドメインが初めて登録されたオンライン辞書です。同社は、Lexico Publishingの一部としてBrian KarigerとDaniel Fierroによって設立され、Thesaurus.comとReference.comも開始しました。

2008年、Dictionary.comはIACの企業であるAsk.comに買収されました。 2018年、IACはDictionary.comとThesaurus.comをRock Holdingsに売却しました。

Dictionary.comのコンテンツは、 Random House Unabridged Dictionaryに基づいており、 Collins English Dictionary 、 American Heritage Dictionaryなどのコンテンツも含まれています。

機能とアプリ

1999年5月3日月曜日、Dictionary.comはWord of the Day機能を開始しました。

2009年4月、Dictionary.comはiOS App Storeで最初の辞書アプリを提供しました。それ以来、彼らはAndroidバージョンと、 シソーラスRexと呼ばれるスタンドアロンのシソーラスアプリを、教育アプリ、 Dictionary.com Flashcards 、 Word Dynamo 、およびZoo Animalsで読むことを学ぶとともにリリースしました 。
